Suggested nameAriel
Planet typeLarge cold gas giant
The planet is named after the deity Ariel, the bringer of war.

The atmospheric pressure at the planet's surface is 7 bar, or roughly the pressure found 585 m under the oceans of Theprax. Ariel's surface is a dry desertscape interspersed with slab-like rocks and is periodically resurfaced by volcanism.

It was the one of the first exoplanets visited by a spacecraft, and one of the first to be successfully landed on.

The Ariel system has a unique configuration among those of the planets because its axis of rotation is tilted sideways, nearly into the plane of its solar orbit. Its north and south poles, therefore, lie where most other planets have their equators.

This planet is occupied by large terraformed oceanic life, the "Thelspon Vi", which survive by finding nourishment in a substance called "Teamaka" during the day. The Thelspon Vi are related to the Promirpsa and have wings and vary in length from 19 to 41 mm. Most Thelspon Vi are able to survive temperatures from 40 to 90°C and very low gravity which is rare on this planet.
